Thin Plastic Liners Are Bad for Your Crawl Space!

Thin Plastic Liners Are Bad for Your Crawl Space! - Image 1

Do you have a crawl space underneath your home right now suffering from a poorly done encapsulation job?

Many people have contacted a company for help thinking their encapsulation solution was going to improve said crawl space, but in the end, it only made things worse. That’s because thin, low grade plastic liners do not solve the moisture problems inside of a crawl space long term.

Sometimes encapsulation solutions for a crawl space involve using this thin, 6-mil polyethylene film to cover the dirt floor inside.

The problem with this type of material is that it rips easily when someone crawls or walks on it, and it will not last for the same amount of time as your home. Many contractors and even homeowners have said that their 6-mil polyethylene film must undergo constant repairs because it tears whenever they go into their crawl space. It cannot get easily attached to the walls either and can get pulled off with little effort.

If the plastic liner that is supposed to encapsulate your crawl space is constantly ripping, that means water and moisture can enter easily. An abundance of moisture or humidity creates the ideal environment for mold to grow in, and before long, your crawl space is covered in it. Then that moldy air travels all throughout your house, creating a nasty odor and slowly wreaking havoc on your health.

All that water can also cause your wooden floor joists to rot and fall apart, which then makes the floor above your crawl space sag. Having a sagging floor means you’ll need to get additional work done to restore stability to it.

Nobody wants to get their crawl space encapsulated, only to have to spend more money and time fixing it repeatedly because the promised solution didn’t work in the first place.

If you want your crawl space fixed the right way, get in contact with our team. We have the solutions that will ensure your crawl space is free from moisture and truly sealed off from the earth.
