Water Belongs in Swimming Pools, NOT in Your Basement!

Water Belongs in Swimming Pools, NOT in Your Basement! - Image 1

Summer has just begun, which means that people have started planning trips to the nearby community pool or making plans to host a pool party of their own.

Summer is a great time to cool off and unwind at the pool. Kids can play games, jump off the diving board, or have racing contests across the pool. Parents can relax and soak up the sun.

There are many enjoyable things in the summertime, but what’s not so enjoyable is having water in your basement. In fact, having water in your basement can truly turn the safety of your home upside down.

Water is great in the right settings, but in a basement…not so much.

When a basement floods, it does not bring anyone joy or suddenly become a place of relaxation. Mold can grow, wooden joists can rot away, the air quality in your home can plummet, and you may even smell some really foul odors. None of these things are a pleasant experience like a trip to the pool during the summer.

Water can enter a basement in many ways, and when the heavy rain comes in the summer, sometimes it makes the leaks even worse. Groundwater leakage can be difficult to control and can destroy a concrete floor. Condensation can happen as hot summer air enters your basement and gets cooled off by your basement floors or walls, forming puddles on the ground. Water that soaks into the soil surrounding your house can put pressure on your foundation walls, causing them to crack and allow water to trickle inside.

It doesn’t matter if the water intrusion comes in large or small volumes, it does not belong in your basement. Water intrusion can result in costly damages overtime or suddenly, and no one wants to deal with the headache high prices can bring.

This summer make sure the water stays in the swimming pool where it belongs, and don’t let it wreck your basement.
