Water Wears Down the Basement Over Time
Water had clearly entered this basement because you can see in this photo that the concrete walls have water stains on them. There are also cracks in the concrete floor, showing wear and tear.
CleanSpace and Drainage Matting
The crew began the waterproofing process by putting up the CleanSpace Wall System and laying down drainage matting on the floor. The drainage matting helps to enhance the longevity and durability of the liner that will be placed on top.
CleanSpace Brightens the Basement
Now this basement is a bright and inviting space instead of being dark and dull looking. Water vapor and moisture can no longer pass through the foundation walls or concrete floor and find its way into the basement.
An Old and Faulty Sump Pump
This sump pump was simply a hole in the concrete floor with a pump inside and a discharge line. There is no sump basin or lid to cover the opening. The water that pools in this hole can easily evaporate right back into the basement before it all gets pumped out, contributing to the moisture problems. Essentially, this type of sump pump design is pointless.
SmartSump Sump Pump System Installed
We replaced the faulty sump pump with our SmartSump Sump Pump System. It features a 1/3 horsepower Zoeller cast-iron pump which has the ability to discharge 2,500 gallons of water an hour at a five-foot head. It also has an air-tight lid and floor drain, so that means no water will leak out and evaporate back into the basement air.
Basement Sealed Off for Good
Now that the floor and walls are covered with our plastic vapor barrier systems, moisture can no longer wreak havoc on the space. Neither of them supports mold or mildew growth either, and they are very durable and designed to last in a basement environment.
